Field Notes 003.
Imagine my surprise upon walking into the Blackberry Bakery when I reached for an apple, only to pull a mushroom out of the fruit basket! If it were not for the giddy giggles in my hand, I fear I might have taken a bite! My shriek of shock called the baker, Cinna, out to see what was wrong, who thankfully explained to me just whose head I had mistaken for an apple. Apparently, I had met one of the fruit salad mushrooms. Cinna very sheepishly explained to me that they had been experimenting with enchanting fruit for baking and that the aftermath had led to a few chaotically adorable consequences. They swear that they only wanted to enhance the flavor and longevity of the fruits, so they could remain in peak condition for as long as possible. But instead, they created magical fruits that tasted horrific! So, without thinking, they cast the enchanted fruit into the compost bin and put it out of their mind, until reports of mischievously magical mushrooms hiding in fruit crates and berry bushes started trickling in.
Eventually, the magical fruit rotted and grew mushrooms that were imbued with the magic of the fruits they consumed! These mushrooms grew and grew until they sprouted as fully fledged toadstools that looked far too much like fruits. Like most mushrooms, they are a silly, slightly stupid bunch, and they love to have a good laugh when they are mistaken for fruit. Cinna has been working on collecting all the rough fruit mushrooms, but unfortunately the compost made from their enchanted fruit has spread throughout the woods by now, and more keep popping up. Now their bakery is running amok with the little fellows! They've asked me to help find them some place new to stay - preferably where they won't be eaten! I might have to host an adoption event just for all the pesky mushrooms I've met, and I've barely walked past the front gates to the Candy Cap Woods. I have no idea what I'm going to find in here, but I am eager to find out. Hopefully, these mushrooms are the last we'll see of Cinna's magical fruits...
