Field Note 002.
 
I first met the mushlings while speaking with Mina, the witch who tends to the various mushrooms in the woods. I assumed at first that they were another variation of the Mycelium Shoots, but evidently, the mushlings are not actually mushrooms! They are a species in the genus of piskie, within the family of Fairy. The piskie genus is classified in part by size, but largely by their close relation to different plants. For example, Piskie serrata closely resemble Hydrangea serrata flowers. One could argue that the mushlings should not be considered piskies as mushrooms are not a type of plant, but upon pointing this out, Mina informed me that no one in the Candy Cap Woods cared enough about taxonomy to differenciate such things. Perhaps one day I will create a compehensive be taxonomy, though I suspect it will be quite the challenge when mixing in magic. 
 
Irregardless, the mushlings are piskies that closely resemble mushrooms and not actual mushrooms. They are a delightful group, equally adorable as the Shoots, but not nearly as dimwitted. I held a fascinating conversation with one over the benefits of leaf versus fruit compost in the cultivation of mushrooms (in xir opinion, fruit tastes better, but leaf is more nutritious, unless it is pine, which xe detests for some unknown reason). A curious bunch, they were eager to hear more about the world outside of the Woods, and have since begged to be added to the adoptable registry alongside the Shoots. I hope they can find a home that is as eager to answer their questions and indulge their curiosity as I have been! Who knows - perhaps their new family will learn a thing or two about compost as well!
