Magical Rosey Maple Moths are native to the Candy Cap Woods, and yet it is very rare to see them mature to their winged form. Rosey Moths have no mouths and do not eat; they live just long enough to mate and then fade away. The magical moths in the Woods are the same, but unlike their non-magic siblings, they can choose to remain as caterpillars.
 
Chloe didn’t get that chance. She was attacked by a hawk and nearly died, had the doctors not put her into an artificial cocoon. She emerged as a full moth and underwent months of physical therapy, learning sign language so she could communicate again, and dozens of surgeries to help her thrive long-term, including one to give her a feeding tube full of nectar. It was a long and exhausting recovery, but she persevered with the thought of finally going back home.
 
But once she returned to her home tree, her friends had abandoned her. Her parents pitied her. Her sisters mocked her. She was the only full moth of her kind, and they could not accept her differences. It nearly broke her... Until she joined a support group put on by the hospital. With the help of the other moths, Chloe learned how to adjust to her new life. She moved away from her home tree, got a job as a librarian at the Midnight Library, and started competing in puzzle competitions with her partner, whom she met at the support group. Chloe is still working on feeling comfortable in her new skin, but like everyone who has survived a traumatic experience, she’s determined to fly again.
